Accounting Clerk 

Mid-size Virginia Beach law firm is seeking an energetic, detail oriented, individual to provide administrative support to the accounting department. Responsibilities are supervised; however, duties require independent judgment, understanding of basic accounting concepts, attention to detail and organizational skills.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Scan accounts payable information into document management system.
  • Scan daily reconciliations. 
  • Take client calls about their account balances and processes payments on accounts. 
  • Open new client files on TABS, verifying appropriate conflict of interest checks, attorney designations, etc.
  • Scan and maintain retainer agreement information in billing system. 
  • Follow-up on pending retainer agreements. 
  • Physical delivery of firm documents to local financial institutions. Local travel required.

Requirements

Required Education, Skills & Experience

  • Requires a high school diploma with a minimum of two (2) years of working experience in an accounting department performing accounts payable and accounts receivable. functions. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe and WordPerfect
  • Accurate typing speed of at least 60 wpm. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proven ability to produce large volumes of work with high attention to detail. Excellent spelling, punctuation, proofreading and grammar skills. 
  • Ability to exercise initiative in problem-solving and the proven ability to make sound decisions in absence of clear instructions. 
  • Strong planning and organizational skills. 
  • Professional demeanor. 
  • Ability work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Reliable, personal transportation for completing departmental tasks requiring the same.

FLSA Status 

  • Full Time 
  • Non-exempt 
  • May require some work on nights and weekends

ADA Requirements 

  • Reaching, handling, hearing, speaking, keyboarding.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.  
  • Seated and/or standing for long periods of time.
