Job Description Summary

This position will support the overall operations of the Answer Desk on the Portsmouth Campus a mission of service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Serve as first point of contact for individuals visiting the campus. Assisting students with entering electronic applications for admissions, registering for classes, checking status of financial aid and providing general information regarding the college.


• Maintain daily operation of Answer Desk to include turn on and activate computers and maintaining supplies
• Assist first-time students/guests with using KIOSK
• Triage current and potential students to learn what services are needed.
• Assist students with registering for classes after Academic Planning Form has been completed by Counselors
• Assist students with applying to the college to as well as related steps to include directing them to Placement Testing, Orientation and Financial Aid.

Required Qualifications

Skilled in the use of software programs to include Internet and e-mail. Ability to communicate effectively orally. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to work effectively with students and staff. Ability to communicate procedures effectively. Skilled in general office procedures and operations to include use of, facsimile and copy machines. General knowledge relating to testing, admissions and requesting transcripts.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and skilled in using PeopleSoft or similar Student Information System. General knowledge of TCC, VCCS and FERPA laws. Experience in registration, processing drop/add, applying for graduation.

Work Schedule

29 hours per week.Varied schedule will Monday-Friday between 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m and some Saturdays.
