Assistant Controller Responsibilities and Expectations

Below is a description of the responsibilities and expectations of the Assistant Controller position within the DX1 Finance team.  As a team, the Director of Finance and staff are responsible for all general ledger related functions for the division, annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, oversight of internal controls and business processes, and supporting/meeting the business needs as requested.

Position Responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

  1. Manage month-end close process, including reviewing, preparing and entering journal entries as necessary.
  2. Directly supervise Staff Accountant(s), including coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions and enforcing policies and procedures.
  3. Monitor status of and review work prepared by Staff Accountants.
  4. Prepare monthly financial reports as required by Corporate Accounting.
  5. Prepare or review monthly vendor trend reports and analysis, monthly financial reports, monthly revenue and expense analyses, and month-end reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  6. Communicate regularly with field personnel to resolve issues, answer questions and provide reporting as necessary.
  7. Strengthen understanding of product offerings and profitability, and work directly with product management team to maximize potential profits.
  8. Develop key relationships with Senior Management to encourage open communication and partnership between operations and finance.
  9. Lead budgeting and projection reporting processes, including coordination of budget inputs from various departments, preparation of reports, and review of projections with Director of Finance.
  10. Prepare monthly flash reporting and commentary, including high level analysis of budget and prior year flux.
  11. Work with the Director of Finance to ensure GAAP compliance for all financial transactions.
  12. Enforce, document, and maintain the division’s internal controls. 
  13. Complete and document billing to production audits to ensure proper billing and service to customers.


Requirements

 Qualifications:

 

  1. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in accounting
  2. CPA or CPA eligible
  3. Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
  4. Strong financial analysis/analytical skills
  5. Experience in financial reporting, internal controls review and reconciliation preparation
  6. Strong communication and problem solving skills
  7. Knowledge of Microsoft Office with proficiency in Excel to manipulate large data files (pivot tables, v-lookup, graphs , etc)
  8. Experience working with J.D. Edwards' general ledger and Salesforce applications, a plus
