Job Description Summary

This is an agency only posting, current, full-time employees of Tidewater Community College can apply.

This position will provide administrative support in all aspects of the operation of the Business Office to include all revenue due and collected.


The Cashier’s primary responsibilities include assisting students and the general public by answering inquiries related to fiscal policies and the operation of the business office, entering all forms of payments in PeopleSoft/SIS system, verifying and attaching third party tuition payment authorizations to contracts, preparing daily deposit and associated documentation, and process/maintain various student and library accounts in the college accounts receivable database. The position will be expected to work effectively with the Virginia Beach campus academic division and student services offices, Payroll, AIS, Facilities Management, Material Management and other internal offices.

Required Qualifications

Experience in bookkeeping. Ability to review and interpret contracts. Ability to use computers and various computer software. Knowledge of state regulations for revenue collection of state and local funds. Experience in cashiering functions including handling large sums of money. Skills in office procedures as well as oral and written communication. Ability to handle a variety of diverse duties. Ability to organize work and make independent decisions within college guidelines. Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve as needed. Experience in business, industry, retail sales, or banking. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with office staff, students, faculty, and general public. Experience in business, industry, and retail sales or banking.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience..

Work Schedule

Monday-Tuesday 10:00 am to 6:30 pm;
Wednesday – Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm; and
required to work additional evenings and Saturdays during peak periods.

Salary Information

Actual salary will be determined based on individual qualifications and experience with consideration for internal alignment factors. The college offers an excellent benefits package.

Additional Information This position requires satisfactory completion of background and credit checks prior to employment. This position is contingent upon availability of funding.
