Riverside Medical Group – Hampton Roads Eye Associates located in Newport News, Virginia is seeking a full time Ophthalmic Assistant.

Job Summary: The Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) greets and escorts the patient to the exam/treatment room and prepares them for the physician. Records physician findings and information into the patient's chart. The OA facilitates patient education through brochures and videos. The OA prepares prescription refills for the physician to review and sign. The OA is also responsible for stocking rooms, returning calls to patients and pharmacies with medical questions. The OA is also responsible for stocking rooms, returning calls to patients and pharmacies with medical questions. Identifies the patient's complaint or reason for the visit and assess the patient's immediate needs to ensure the patient is seen in a timely manner. Records pertinent medical, allergic, ophthalmic and family histories to include current prescriptions, glasses and contact lenses. Performs and records pertinent clinical measures to include Visual Acuities, Refractometry, Applanation Tonometry, Keratometry, Slit Lamp Exams, Visual Fields, and OCT. Performs and teaches Insert and Removal Procedures for Contact Lens Patients. Greets and escorts patients to appropriate room for examination and/or treatment. Demonstrates complete and accurate chart documentation as dictated by the physicians. Notifies physician of patients with acute needs and schedule flow.

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification: AAO Homestudy Course to be completed within six months of employment.

Experience: 1 year in medical office required. Medical Assistant experience desired.

HOURS: Mon-Fri - Full time days
