Provides support to the Collections Manager and the Collections Department. This includes but is not limited to controlling delinquent accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments and/or recovering collateral, scheduling, training staff, and monitoring/developing the work of Collectors.  

Major Responsibilities: Assists the Collection Manager with hires, reviews, schedules, training, and monitoring of the Collector's work. Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail and takes appropriate action to bring them current. Arranges the sale of repossessed collateral, determines additional investments to be made in collateral. Analyzes financial situations of delinquent borrowers and takes action to repossess collateral if needed. Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent and/or charged off loans. Testifies at legal proceedings as required and performs other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Position requirements: The successful candidate will possess a two year college degree, or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school, or completion of a specialized and extensive in house training or apprenticeship program, and one to three years of similar or related experience. A minimum of two years of increasing job experience in the collection field is required. A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing, or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Thorough knowledge of collection procedures, techniques, and count proceedings in addition to written and interpersonal skills to supervise employees and communicate effectively with members is desired. Must have analytical abilities to make decisions and resolve problems. Physical qualifications include being able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time and lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
