Job Description Summary

The Communications & Development Specialist will provide support for the Office of Institutional Advancement’s (IA) communications, special events and development initiatives. Support includes, developing and distributing various online and print communications, assisting with the planning and execution of IA events and fundraising campaigns, and managing assigned administrative duties. The preferred candidate must be highly organized, possess excellent written and verbal skills and be able to effectively collaborate with diverse audiences including, college officials, partnering agencies, board members, donors, volunteer, students and alumni. This position will report to the Associate Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations.

Function

1. Assist with developing a strategic annual communications plan in collaboration with the Associate Director Annual Giving & Alumni Relations
2. Create original content such as articles, newsletters, flyers, brochures, blog posts, presentations and videos for the IA website and communications and fundraising campaigns in collaboration with the IA leadership
3. Serve as point of contact for internal and external vendors such as mail house, visual communications department, and contractors
4. Develop and execute social media calendar and campaigns catered to diverse audiences that promote IA’s mission.
5. Maintain IA’s social media accounts and all outreach efforts via social media according to the social media calendar
6. Maintain and actively contribute to the growth of IA’s distribution lists to maximize communications and fundraising efforts
7. Maintain IA’s websites by posting new content and updating existing content
8. Provide reports on communications, development and social media campaigns, event registration, attendance, budget and revenue
9. Coordinate logistics for all IA events including but not limited to registration, event set-up and take down, order catering and promotional items, organize AV needs, and serve as point of contact for associated volunteers and vendors such as venue representative, photographer, caterer, etc.
10. Provide administrative support for IA meetings and office management and maintain inventory of marketing materials and promotional items
11. Assist with other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in writing, editing and proofreading print and online materials. Knowledge and experience in execution of marketing, communications, public relations and special events activities. Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite. Intermediate to advance knowledge and experience using email marketing tools (Constant Contact) website management tools (WordPress, Joomla) and event management applications (Eventbrite, CVENT). Advanced knowledge and experience in using various social media applications to execute campaigns and strategically engage diverse audiences. Ability to provide administrative support such as planning meetings, creating detailed reports and office management. Ability to manage multiple projects. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Training that provides the requisite knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field from a regionally accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and skills. Experiencing working in a non-profit environment. Knowledge of electronic procurement.

Work Schedule

9:00AM-3:00PM, Monday-Friday; this position will require some evenings and weekends. This is a part-time, 29 hours per week position.
