The WCCB Controller directs, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates all financial and accounting operations; expected to always model our core values of respect, passion, and professionalism, and be willing to assist and use his/her authority, in holding others accountable for doing the same.

 

Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors. Establishes and maintains financial controls with the accounting department.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

Management
- Manages the Accounting department, including responsibility for planning, directing and supervising all financial/accounting operations including billing, 
  accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and financial reporting.

- Directs personnel actions including hiring, staffing, performance evaluations, merit recommendations, counseling, terminations and scheduling. 

- Leads the Accounting team members by clarifying roles and responsibilities, developing and implementing training programs to 
  achieve optimal individual and organizational goals.

 

Reporting

- Prepares report and partcipates in meetings for the Board Finance, Resident Finance, and Audit committees.

- Prepares various reports for and attend Executive Team meetings at the request of the CFO

- Issues timely and complete monthly financial statements and managerial reports

- Coordinates and direct the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts

- Calculates variances from the annual budget and report significant issues to management.

- Recommends benchmarks and calculate and issue financial and operating KPIs

- Coordinates the preparation of annual corporate tax returns, tax memoranda to residents, and other special reports.

- Oversees preparation and timely filing of annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports

- Provides financial analyses as needed, particularly in the areas of cash management, capital investment, pricing decision, and contract negotiations

 

Compliance

- Coordinates the provision of reports and information for the annual external audit

- Coordinates the timely filing of annual tax returns

- Monitors debt levels to ensure compliance with debt covenants and issue quarterly disclosure reports

 

Operations

- Serves as the organization’s finance executive to the CFO

- Serves as the organization’s expert on technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP and regulatory requirements

- Manages the organization’s cash flow to meet daily operating cash requirements

- Collaborates with Executive Team and department managers to assess the financial efficacy of operations

- Develops and document business processes and accounting procedures to maintain and strengthen internal controls

- Assists in review of financial statements of all residents and prospectives to project their ability or inability to pay all fees and expenses during their 
  life expectancy.  
- Maintains detailed actuarial system.
- Establishes financial systems and reports to support the operations of other departments

- Demonstrates strong internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work 
  environment consistent with our mission, value, and culture

Requirements

  • Demonstrate initiative in offering to pitch-in and help others wherever needed.
  • Assist in carrying out the mission of Westminster-Canterbury in any way needed at the time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 5+ years of supervisory/management experience preferred
  • Master degree or CPA with a valid license preferred
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft applications such as Windows, Google Email and Docs, Excel, and Word required
  • Proven experience in financial project management
  • Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines, with strong organization and priority setting skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively communicate in writing and verbally with executive management, leaders, staff, etc.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Sedentary work - must be able to perform computer work for six to eight hours per day, either standing or sitting • Must be able to file and retrieve documents from filing cabinets and storage area, • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver boxes/files weighing up 25 pounds. • Must be able to work hours that extend beyond normal business hours depending on operational needs.
