The Cook I prepares food in accordance with current standards, guidelines and regulations and carefully follows directions given by the Sous Chef and/or Executive Chef to ensure that safe and high quality food service is provided at all times.  Cook I prepares recipes with multiple processes, occasionally prepares hot entrees for both lunch, dinner, and special events and has intermediate proficiency in all recipes. We expect the Cook I  will have  the ability to work several kitchen stations, lunch, dinner, vegetable, breakfast, salad area and assists other cooks when working a more job specific station, vegetable, breakfast, salad area. Cook I assists in special function preparation and execution and works independently with some guidance from Executive Chef, Sous Chef or Lead Chef.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of food preparation and handling techniques
  • General knowledge of safety and sanitation rules and practices
  • Responsible for hot food preparation, including accompaniments and garnishes
  • Prepare hot entrees, soups and vegetables following preparation sheets and provided recipes for main dining room, healthcare, resident café, employee dining room and any special functions
  • Prepares and creatively assembles cold appetizers, salads, cold entrees following preparation sheets and provided recipes for main dining room, healthcare, resident café, employee dining room and any special functions
  • Completes food temperature checks at each meal and records these in temperature log book
  • Completes preparation and productivity records as specified by production system and stores food items properly at the close of meal service
  • Cleans work area and equipment used in food preparation
  • Follows safety and sanitation rules and practices
  • Ensures that all hot food preparation and assembling is done in accordance with established procedures

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma/GED desired
  • Prior cooking, baking, food service experience preferred
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule
  • Able to lift 25+ pounds
  • Fluent English-speaking, writing, spelling and math skills
  • Willing/able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and special events when required
