Corporate Communications, Reputational Risk Director



The Director for Reputation Risk will play a key role in identifying existing and emerging trends and managing reputational risk, company issues and crisis events.



As a Director, you will develop and manage the reputation risk frameworks and process and help drive initiatives across the enterprise to protect and enhance the bank’s reputation. Specifically, you will apply your analytical, research, and project management skills to identify and assess potential reputation risks and plan engagement with key external constituents (including media), and influence business practices and strategy. The Director will work directly for the Vice President of Public Affairs and Reputation Risk Management and support the larger Corporate Communications team in creating analytically-based solutions to drive a disciplined yet efficient reputation risk culture for Capital One.As a member of the Public Affairs team, the candidate will have the opportunity to take on expanding responsibilities quickly, gain exposure to business lines and deepen his/her understanding of effective public affairs and reputation risk management programs. The successful candidate will assist with developing strategies and managing initiatives in accordance with the company’s Reputation Risk Policy and framework.



Specific responsibilities will include:



-Identify opportunities and work with partners across Lines of Business and Corporate Staff groups to assess potential reputation risk issues and develop mitigation plans

-Representing the reputation risk perspective in senior led risk discussions and forums across lines of businesses

-Serving as both an effective challenger and a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders to include executives and senior leaders

-Conducting research and media monitoring to determine trends, emerging trends, and industry best practices related to financial services and technology

-Synthesizing external and internal viewpoints to support reputation risk assessments

-Reviewing and responding to requests for company information to ensure accuracy and appropriateness



Candidate Qualities:



-Ability to independently and proactively identify emerging trends within industry and areas of interest

-Ability to independently and proactively evaluate key reputation risks and controls relative to business strategy, products and/or processes

-Strong strategic and integrative thinking skills

-Deep experience in managing a portfolio of projects and successfully executing projects

-Strong judgement and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills

-Commitment to excellence, ensuring accuracy of reports and projections through analytical and abstract reasoning skills.

-Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all organization levels; ability to work independently and as part of a team.

-Strong executive communication skills: impeccable written and oral communication credentials,

-A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation

-Proven experience in building relationships with stakeholders, to include senior management

-Knowledge of financial services and digital/tech sectors

-Ability to exercise strong judgment within narrow time-frames

-Strong team player with good critical thinking, organization and planning skills



Basic Qualifications:



-At least a Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience

-At least 10 years experience in public relations OR public affairs



Preferred Qualifications:



-Master’s Degree in Communications or related field, Public Administration (MPA) or Business Administration (MBA)

-10+ years of communications, public relations experience

-10+ years of risk management experience

-5+ years of experience in quantitative analysis OR project management

-5+ years of experience with leading cross-functional teams (setting direction of team and managing expectations)
