Tidewater Community College seeks applications for a Custodian position for the Norfolk Campus. These positions will provide a full range of Custodial/housekeeping services for the Norfolk Campus on the evening shift; 6:00 PM – 12:30 AM with rotating Saturdays as required.
This position will provide a full range of custodial/ housekeeping services for college facilities to include, but not limited to, trash removal, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, floor stripping and waxing, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, black/white-board cleaning, etc. Provide room set-up/take-down assistance and light bulb replacement as assigned. Perform other cleaning tasks as assigned. Maintain and demonstrate good attendance habits.
This position, designated as an essential position, must be able to report to work and fulfill responsibilities of the position in the event of college/campus closure due to weather or emergent conditions.
Maintains the cleanliness of campus buildings. Provides custodial/housekeeping services in a public educational setting to include, but not limited to, daily removal of trash, sanitizing and restocking restrooms, cleaning a variety of spaces (offices, classrooms, laboratories, theater settings, common areas, cafeterias, day care areas, garages etc.), mopping, dusting and sweeping, glass cleaning in all applicable areas, etc. Must be able to climb a 6 foot ladder, and lift up to 50lbs unaided. Must assist in the set up and take down of special events if assigned. Note that your job assignment may include weekends, and that your shift is subject to change based on the needs of Tidewater Community College. Performs cleaning of all hard surface/carpeted floors throughout the campus by using scrubbers, burnishers, wet/dry/dust mops, polishers, and other equipment. Maintains a polished and clean floor surface. Follows Instructions and uses chemicals and equipment provided by TCC. Preforms work according to industry standards. Uses proper safety equipment and procedures when working. Performs routine housekeeping duties to include, but not limited to, cleaning black/white-boards, emptying pencil sharpeners, cleaning desk surfaces, window cleaning, elevator panels/doors, spot-cleaning carpets (or deep cleaning if assigned), floors etc. Snow removal from entries and walkways and application of snowmelt when required. Maintains equipment to include changing vacuum bags, filters, cleaning scrubbers, mop buckets, cleaning carts, janitor closets, stock rooms and other equipment utilized during daily routine. Reports any problems, maintenance issues with buildings, or broken equipment to manager. Adheres to an established schedule and standards for cleaning public educational settings. Reports malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Informs supervisor of needed supplies. Informs supervisor of the need to reorder supplies/equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. This position is subject to schedule changes with reasonable notification.
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial, custodial, and housekeeping services, and sanitizing techniques. Knowledge of custodial operations and industry standards. Ability to climb ladders without assistance. Ability to lift objects not more than 50 lbs. Experience in janitorial, custodial, or housekeeping to include carpet care, and floor maintenance.
6:00 PM – 12:30 AM, Monday – Friday, with rotating Saturdays required.
