Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, VA is currently seeking a labor pool Cytotechnologist.
Job Summary: This position performs procedures in the Cytology department according to established protocols and standard operating procedures. The Cytologist is responsible for screening cytology slides and routes atypical for pathology review. The cytologist is involved in the routine maintenance of departmental equipment and procedures to include inventory control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting. The position participates in all aspects of Proficiency testing and in maintaining a constant state of readiness in the department to meet all Standards for accreditation from College of American Pathologist (CAP), Joint Commission, State, OSHA, CLIA, etc. The cytologist assists in the training of new and existing personnel as well as students. The cytologist adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; maintains a professional demeanor and exhibits a positive attitude. The cytologist also trains and performs as a Flow Cytometry technician. May perform other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
Licensure: CT (ASCP) or ASCP eligible.
Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience is preferred. Ability-operate technology/equipment consistent with current industry standards.
