Data Analysis Manager



Capital One has established an aggressive program to rethink how our core financial products will be managed in the future. Building a nimble public cloud based environment that can react to customer needs and market demands is a dramatically different environment than the traditional brick-and-mortar & mailed statement world our mainframe applications were built to support. In this role you will be an active member of our team that’s identifying opportunities to accelerate the migration of legacy applications off the mainframe to open source, public cloud based technologies.



In this role, you will be lead the analysis effort to identify opportunities that will migrate ~200 mainframe dependent applications and over 2000 DB2 tables to open systems on AWS such as Postgres, Casandra, and MangoDB. You will interact with engineers to figure out the best architectures, lift 'n shift candidates and support the integrated web of interdependencies across these applications and their shared databases. You will also have the opportunity to lead technical teams to migrate these databases and their support applications, APIs, and batch jobs.



**Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:**



+ Creative, outside-the-box thinking and problem solving approach that you can prove

+ Able to deliver independently while working and influencing a matrix team

+ Experience working with data in new and evolving environments

+ Strong analytical mindset and ability to use data and logic to make compelling business cases

+ Comfortable with carving an implementable plan from white space and take it to fruition

+ Ability to understand APIs and real time messaging to identify lineage and data consumption patterns

+ Strong vocabulary in technical areas

+ Your bias is towards learning in market. You know what you want to learn, and you are bold enough to use failures.

+ Solid understanding of migrating data to open source databases such as Postgres, Casandra and MangoDB

+ Experience in Public Cloud especially AWS and CICD

+ Attention to detail - You will need to learn and understand complex application dependencies

+ Comfortable delivering thru a heavily matrixed team where the ownership of the application belongs to a different party

+ A great communicator (and can prove it) both written and verbal - You must be able to present and convince very smart individuals on an ongoing basis.



**Responsibilities may include:**



+ Assist app owners in migrating their app databases from mainframe to open source DBs on the public cloud

+ Help define and evolve the modernization strategy by leveraging your analytical skills

+ Lead and assist the implementation of Mainframe Modernization to the cloud

+ Identify and implement process, data, and reporting improvements for the program

+ Work with large and complex databases containing hundreds of millions of records

+ Understanding DB2 based databases shared across multiple applications for modernization to the cloud

+ Extract and analyze data to understand application usage patterns to support migration strategy

+ Understanding of AWS and newer open source database technologies

+ Improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness of the program

+ Conduct analysis to evaluate processes and tests

+ Consult on design and implementation of new production and data storage systems on cloud

+ Present complex IT concepts and project metrics to both technical and non-technical audiences.

+ Serve as an expert and knowledge source for the escalation of complex application design and development issues.



An ideal candidate will possess strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities in addition to communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. This position will be in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment where you will be handling multiple concurrent efforts while working independently with teams.



**Basic Qualifications:**



+ Bachelor’s Degree

+ At least 3 years of professional data analysis work experience

+ At least 2 years of database / SQL / Services / API programming experience

+ At least 1 year of experience in people management

+ At least 1 year of experience working in an Agile / SAFe environment
