Riverside Regional Medical Center is currently seeking a full-time ED Lab Tech.

Job Summary: This position performs routine and special blood collections according to established protocols and standard operation procedures. The position is also responsible for explaining specimen collection procedures and instructions to patients, nurses, physicians, etc. The SST may also be responsible for performing patients EKGs, ABGs, and placing patients on cardiac monitor. The SST must maintain patient confidentiality and properly identify patients according to guidelines set forth by the facility, (i.e. patient safety goals). This person is a vital member of the trauma team. Responsible for intravenous access and delivery of emergency blood samples. Also responsible for the delivery of blood products to the bedside staff for use in a trauma or critical patient. This position is responsible for maintaining proper inventory in the department and for keeping appropriate stock levels in the collection basket. The SST is also responsible for printing, monitoring, and distributing patient reports to proper locations. The SST is required to follow all quality control and quality assurance guidelines established in the department to include accurate performance of job duties with proper documentation. The SST is responsible for effective intradepartmental and interdepartmental communications to include such items as shift to shift hand off pending collection inquiries and resolutions. Critical thinking and prioritization is critical for this role as will be responsible for maintaining timely collections and results to expedite patient care.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Certification: Required to be (1) licensed or eligible by the State of Virginia as a C.N.A., or (2) EMT-B, or (3) have completed a Medical Assistant program/certification, or (4) currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program with 80 hours completed, or (5) must have completed training in phlebotomy. ASCP or equivalent certification preferred

Experience: Previous experience in blood collection techniques preferred. Knowledge of laboratory medical terminology preferred. Working knowledge of computers
