**External Job Description:**

Supports the Shock and Survivability Engineering Group in timely delivery of products required to meet technical and program commitments. Analyzes, researches and develops engineering solutions for complex problems associated with naval shock survivability or related ship design aspects. Performs complex and in-depth analyses accurately. Leads small to medium sized projects to completion with a reasonable amount of oversight from senior level engineers and management. Manages project timelines, including keeping customers and stakeholders up to date on progress, technical concerns, and ECDs. Drives assigned tasks to completion.

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of products. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

A practical understanding of structural engineering and strength concepts is preferred. An understanding of naval ship construction techniques and arrangements is preferred. An understanding of welding principals is preferred. Experience with a 3d design environment as well as 2d drawings is preferred. Must have practical understanding of physics, structural mechanics, and dynamics. Must be able to obtain a SECRET clearance. Must be able to support management in the execution of all tasking by keeping project plans updated and stakeholders informed of all issues. Must physically be able to work in a heavy industrial or ship construction environment. Must be able to work on several projects simultaneously, research and understand complex ship systems and dynamic interactions, and understand and use engineering and naval architecture principles. Preferred software experience: Autodesk, NX, SAP, FEMAP, NASTRAN, or equivalent.
