VIRGINIA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY ( seeks applications for the position of Evening Supervisor, Hofheimer Library.

VWU is Coastal Virginia’s premier private, national liberal arts university, offering 34 majors, 30 minors and seven pre-professional programs.  Affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located on a 300-acre wooded campus on the border of Norfolk/Virginia Beach, the University enrolls approximately 1,400 students. 

The position involves 27 hours per week, academic year only (late August – early May); Sunday – Thursday until midnight. As a part-time position, it does not receive benefits. Hours are extended until 2 a.m. at the end of the fall and spring semesters during exams. This position provides supervision of undergraduate student assistants and serves as the building manager during the evening hours.


Qualified candidates must have demonstrated professionalism and excellent customer service, preferably in a university environment.  Candidates must have demonstrated excellent attendance, punctuality, flexibility and reliability in support of public service operations.  Must have basic proficiency with computers and numerous software packages, including spreadsheets and word processing (experience with Windows operating system and Microsoft Excel and Word are preferred) and ability to operate general office equipment, such as copiers/scanners.  Knowledge and experience with web-based applications, including email and calendar applications is required.   


The successful candidate will work well in a team environment as well as on their own.  The candidate must be a self-starter who possesses advanced interpersonal relationship skills, demonstrated communications skills, and superb attention to detail.  Ideal candidates will have an aptitude for trouble-shooting and assisting users and staff with technology and equipment, including the library’s 3D printer.  Supervisory experience preferred, previous library experience preferred.   Bachelor’s degree preferred.
