Description

The Commercial Development Group has an immediate need for an Experienced Web Developer on our team!  We’re building search engines, eCommerce engines, mobile sites, mobile apps, tablet apps, inventory management systems, most of which are driven by APIs.  If it is web-enabled, we’re working on it.  This position will have you working on cloud tech, open source tech, and place you in a position to influence and drive how we build our next-gen software applications.  Team players are a must, as you will be working in an agile environment with your teammates, reviewing pull requests and having your own requests reviewed.

We're located 25 minutes away from the resort area of Virginia Beach in downtown Norfolk.

Responsibilities

  • Process and understand User Stories with their associated User Acceptance Criteria.
  • Understand how your assigned User Stories fit in with the overall Sprint.
  • Understand how the Sprint fits into the overall Epic, and design your software with that in mind.
  • Assess how difficult your assigned User Stories will be to complete.
  • Write new software in PHP, Javascript, & SQL.
  • Modify/maintain/update legacy PHP and Javascript code.
  • Design data models for both relational database and non-relational databases.
  • Design APIs to support websites and mobile applications.
  • Review teammate’s pull requests, providing feedback and guidance while enforcing our coding standards.
  • Experiment with open source technologies and tools to identify upgrades to our products.
  • Write unit tests for your software.
  • Actively and regularly communicate with your teammates.
  • Document new processes or modified processes as necessary.


Requirements

Requirements

  • 3 years of PHP or similar language experience.
  • 3 years of Javascript experience.
  • Strong Object Oriented skill sets.
  • Good data modeling skills
  • Good natured team member.
  • Effective verbal communicator.
  • Effective written communicator.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering or a related field and three (3) years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

These will get you an interview quickly

  • Have written APIs for mobile or cloud applications.
  • Have architected or have helped architect new websites.
  • Great experience with PHP, Memcache or Redis, Apache or NGiNX, Oracle or MySQL, and Solr.
  • Practical team experience in an agile environment.
