Job Details

The junior designer needs a wide range of design and creative capabilities as well as the ability to meet deadlines high-pressureure environments.

 The junior designer will be ready to develop their existing skills by working with senior creative staff on a range of innovative projects. The JD will help drive the creative direction of campaigns, implement typography, create effective layouts for digital and traditional media designs, and resolve art direction and edits to campaigns to help the team produce the best work possible.

 A good knowledge of the following tools is required:

  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Microsoft Office

 Communication is a big part of the job, so the junior designer must feel confident enough to contribute to the entire creative process. Keeping a finger on the pulse of current trends is also key when moving towards promotion and recognition.

 Responsibilities

  • Implement design solutions for direct mail and digital projects using creative applications on provided computer systems.
  • Works closely with Art Director, Creative Services Manager, Copy Department, Production Department on a daily basis to develop design solutions that meet given project specifications, objectives, aesthetic values, and that adhere to appropriate mail or digital restrictions.
  • Works in a protégé capacity with Art Director and Creative Services Manager receiving guidance, on-site training and industry/technical information.
  • Day-to-day tasks are mocking up project components, personalizing creative files, photo retouching and minor design changes to creative files.
  • Participates in scheduled creative kickoff meetings and notes all items related to the creative aspect of the project that arise during kickoff meetings such as component specifications, time lines and or any departures from initial support documentation. 
  • Works closely with client specific Account teams to discuss required changes and or suggested edits on all creative products of the project.
  • Will develop a complete understanding of the direct mail project schedule from kick-off to mail date and understands the flexibility of project schedule dates and the tendency for constant change due to an unforeseen client or internal change, delay or issue.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or other relevant fields
  • 1-2 years design experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Adeptness with leading design software packages
  • A determination to achieve and succeed
  • Some creative industry experience
  • The ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • A background of working as part of a design team
  • The ability to see projects through from inception to production
  • Consistency regardless of project size
  • Good organizational skills that support the rest of the team
  • The motivation to maintain and improve design standards
  • The willingness to listen to feedback and use it to improve
