The Health Information Manager supervises the Health Information Department, including maintaining Electronic Health Records for all Residents, managing P&L, and overseeing and approving payroll for the Health Information Departmental staff.

Duties and Responsibilities include:


  • Manages all Health Information staff, contractors, vendors, and temps; to include the Health Information Financial Analyst and the Health Information Technician.
  • Reviews and approves time, attendance and payroll processing for the Health Information Financial Analyst and the Health Information Technician.
  • Oversees and is accountable for the Profit & Loss of the Health Information Department. Approves all invoices and expenditures of the Health Information Department. Is responsible for drafting and adhering to the annual operating and capital budgets for the Health Information Department.
  • Responsible for directing, planning, coordinating and administering the daily functions of all Electronic Medical Records and addressing all staff questions to include the maintenance of all Health Information Management (HIM) systems to ensure that they are always running at maximum speeds, fully functional and accessible at all times to all staff who require the use of them.
  • Supervises the support team and support structure for the Health Information Department to provide support to all staff for all clinical and financial functions of the Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Manages and maintains the processes/reports within each Electronic Medical Record system
  • Works with the vendors to test, train and provide trainings for all staff on updates and upgrades for Electronic Medical Records systems.
  • Responsible for overseeing the entering of admissions for Independent Living and Early Advantage resident admissions as well as their paperwork into all Electronic Medical Records as appropriate and timely.
  • Manages the Disaster Recovery efforts of all Electronic Medical Record systems.
  • Coordinates and provides ongoing training on the HIM systems for all employees as well as orientation coordination for all new employees utilizing the systems.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining a complete electronic medical record for each resident reflecting the resident’s condition from admission to discharge in accordance with professional standards and procedures, including, but not limited to, seeing that medical records are completely documented and properly organized, easily accessible to facilitate retrieval of information, scanned and coded to conform to all state and federal standards, as well as ICD-10 guidelines.
  • Assists and provides data from all electronic medical record systems for medical audits and study projects involving patient care and utilization of services.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining an ongoing routine audit schedule for all medical records which would include participation in continuous quality improvement activities directly related to oversight of HIM and other aspects of the departments aspects.
  • Responsible for submitting reports to Administration as requested on audits, system improvement suggestions and changes to HIM procedures.
  • Provides and attends in-service training regarding medical records, Protected Health Information, confidentiality, data entry and other pertinent topics as needed. Attends all mandatory in-services and EMR vendor seminars and training as needed.
  • Keeps current with state and federal regulation changes relating to medical records and Protected Health Information.
  • Maintains medical record retention and destruction log and oversees the record storage and destruction process of inactive medical records.
  • Designs electronic medical record forms, nursing and medical record audits, and logs as needed.
  • Provides ongoing support and troubleshooting to resolves HIM support cases.
  • Leads HIM development and optimization projects to improve clinical and financial workflows and manages tasks therein.

  • Seeks to identify Electronic Medical Record Areas of improvement relating to continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Provides assistance troubleshooting and resolving Electronic Medical Record support tickets as assigned.
  • Works independently and provides general information to residents and Westminster-Canterbury staff on Health Information Department procedures or HIPAA guidelines.
  • Manages all Health Information staff, contractors, vendors, and temps; to include the Health Information Financial Analyst and the Health Information Technician.



  • Graduate of an accredited school of Health Information technology approved by the American Health Information Management Association preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Certification as a RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) preferred.
  • Highly self motivated and directed and able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Experience in Microsoft and Google Computer Applications
  • Ability to multi-task and work with the elderly population.
