CNA Required or Eligible
Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse to provide personal care, comfort measures and environmental services to patients (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments. Responsibilities include: providing care consistent with written instructions, assisting with personal hygiene, assisting with ambulation and exercise, assisting with medications that are ordinarily self administered, reporting changes in the patients condition and needs to a registered nurse, providing nutritional support, performing other related supportive tasks as specified by organizational policy and completing appropriate records in compliance with hospice policies and procedures. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our patients and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives. The Hospice Aide may be required to work every other weekend and every other holiday as census and staffing require. Will perform other duties as assigned. Supports the hospice philosophy.
Licensed or eligible by the State of Virginia as a C.N.A. highly preferred. Current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required upon hire and to be maintained during employment. Must also have reliable transportation to make visits to patient homes each day. BLS for Healthcare Providers required.
Prior experience in health care preferred but not required.
A) Holds a certificate of completion from an approved nurse aide training program and be registered by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a certified nurse aide or B) Hold a certificate of completion from a professional nursing practical nursing or nurse aide training program approved by the Virginia Department of Education or the Virginia Community College System or the Virginia Department of Health Professions or C) Holds a certificate of completion from a home health aide training program approved by the Department of Health prior to July 1, 1984 and have been in continuous practice since that time. In addition, before rendering services to Hospice patients the Hospice Aide must pass a written test with a score of 70% or higher and be checked off on a skills check list by a Registered Nurse. Hospice Aide will not be able to render any service which he/she has not successfully demonstrated competence and will not be able to render any care if more than one of the core skills are not demonstrated at the appropriate skill level. Must meet the standards set at 42 CFR 484. 36 (a) (b).
