The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice seeks applicants for a Lecturer to teach a wide variety of undergraduate classes in sociology and criminal justice, serve as Chief Department Advisor (at least for the first three years; 4-4 teachload will be reduced when serving as CDA), and contribute to service in the department, college, and university as needed. A Ph.D. in sociology, criminology, or criminal justice is required with at least 18 graduate credit hours in both sociology and in criminology/criminal justice. Preference will be given to applicants with strong undergraduate teaching experience and experience with advising. Position to begin August 2018.
 
The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice offers Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and in Criminal Justice, M.A. Sociology, and Ph.D. Criminology & Criminal Justice. The department has an accomplished, collaborative, and diverse faculty and student body and the successful candidate should enrich this environment. Old Dominion University is a residential and research-extensive public institution with a student enrollment of 25,000 including approximately 5,000 graduate students, and a full time equivalent diverse and multicultural faculty of over 850.  The university’s primary campus is located in Norfolk, VA, one of the seven cities that make up the historic Hampton Roads region of Virginia, a major recreational area with a population of 1.7 million near the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay.
