Job Details

The Office of Development at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Major Gifts Officer (full-time, 12 month) position. Major Gift Officers (MGOs) are responsible for raising private gifts of $25,000 or more to help advance the mission of the University. This position will work with regional giving efforts.


Required Education:Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with experience that equates to a master’s degree.


Required Qualifications:Experience working in a higher education environment or non-profit organization in a fund-raising position. Some experience working as a major gifts or development officer, or considerable corporate sales experience. Ability to develop and implement fund-raising strategies. Demonstrated knowledge of the cultivation and solicitation process in securing major gifts. Successful track record in securing gifts of $25,000 or more. Organization, communication, and diplomacy skills in working with Board members and major gift prospects. Ability to draft high quality solicitation proposals and letters.
