Manager, PR & Strategic Communications, Small Business Credit Card



Capital One is seeking a highly qualified, experienced communicator to support the business’ growth and expansion as a leading provider of small business credit card products, features and resources. The PR Manager role resides within the Corporate Communications framework of the company, primarily supporting the Small Business Card line of business. The role is responsible for leading external communications strategy for the business, providing ongoing public relations counsel to key partners and channel leads, and helping to create and execute innovative external public relations campaigns that support brand and business objectives.



The Manager must have solid experience in strategic communications and PR, including B2B experience, ability to execute multi-channel integrated PR/communications campaigns, exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills, expertise in relationship-building, a solid understanding of and experience working with traditional and social media, possess professional presence, and good project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once.



**Responsibilities:**



+ Develop, plan and execute integrated PR campaigns for the Small Business Card line of business reporting into Corporate Communications;

+ Effectively translate business/brand objectives into actionable, cross-platform PR and communications campaigns from ideation through launch;

+ Establish and strengthen Capital One’s relationship with key media, bloggers, influencers and other thought leaders;


+ Be a creative thinker and self-starter capable of exploring new channels, opportunities and approaches to external storytelling, content generation, influencer relations and strategic communications;

+ Support interviews and other interactions with external media, providing counsel, messaging support and media training, as needed;

+ Develop and issue strategic and sound external communications plans and materials, including press releases, media alerts, award submissions, thought leadership, social media content and other communications documents – taking into account industry landscape, small business and enterprise brand vision, and associated risks, issues and potential sensitivities

+ Become an expert and informed resource on the small business financial services and technology landscape

+ Work effectively on cross-functional teams to advance external communications strategy;

+ Coordinate and facilitate media outreach and engagement, leveraging key contacts and managing relationships to prioritize and qualify media opportunities in national and regional dailies, broadcast media, online/social media outlets as well as key bloggers and other influencers;

+ Develop roster of speaking engagements and event opportunities for participation; and manage executive training and briefing needs;

+ Oversee agency implementation of activities where required, including brief and plan development; serve as PR liaison with professional and vendor partners.



**The successful candidate will have:**



+ Proven track record for developing and implementing successful strategies and providing external communications counsel to business leaders.


+ Strong understanding and knowledge of B2B PR;

+ Experience in executing multi-channel integrated PR campaigns tied to overall brand awareness and goal of driving new business;

+ Experience working for a leading brand within financial services or packaged/consumer goods industry;


+ Experience in planning and execution of performance driven integrated PR campaigns;

+ Experience in coordinating media relations activities with media including press releases, media days, interviews and executive briefings;

+ Experience in developing and executing on the ground experiential marketing events;

+ Strong written/verbal communications skills (writing sample required);


+ Knowledge and ability to implement social media strategies;


+ Ability to present complex subject matter in a clear, compelling manner;

+ Strong understanding of the public relations industry, and related knowledge of key trade publications and local and national outlets;


+ Proven ability to work effectively with multiple constituents, including peers, executive management, and senior management;

+ Creativity, ability to think outside the box, integrative problem-solving and structured thinking;

+ Self-motivation with strong organizational skills, analytical talent and attention to detail;

+ Exceptional knowledge of PowerPoint and strong presentation skills;


+ Ability to work in a team and able to work in an open and collaborative environment and stay calm under intense pressure and manage rapidly changing priorities;

+ Ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines and monitor and evaluate results.



**Basic qualifications:**



+ At least a Bachelor’s Degree OR military experience


+ At least 6 years of experience in external communications OR at least 6 years of experience in B2B and consumer Public Relations (PR) OR at least 6 years of combined experience in external communications and Public Relations



**Preferred qualifications:**



+ At least 2 years of experience executing multi-channel integrated campaigns in an external communications role


+ PR agency and/or B2B experience

+ Experience creating and executing PR campaigns for big brands

+ Solid project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once and adapt to rapidly changing priorities

+ Proven ability to work effectively with multiple constituents, including peers, executive management, senior management, giving simplicity to complex subject matters

+ Strong executive presence and have expertise in relationship building

+ Solid media relations experience including a proven ability to manage media interviews for internal executives and associates

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills

+ Creative, integrative problem-solving and structured thinking

+ Self-motivated with strong organizational skills, analytical talent and attention to detail

+ Excellent presentation and persuasion skills

+ Demonstrated hands-on management, planning, ability to present plans with confidence and execute flawlessly

+ Strong understanding of the public relations industry, and related knowledge of key trade publications, B2B outlets and local / national outlets

+ Experience in online/social media outreach and campaigns

+ Experience with MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and media analysis tools

+ 7+ years of public relations experience for a leading brand

+ Experience in creating and executing PR campaigns for big brands
