Develops Technology and Solutions to address gaps in the current State of the Marine Industry knowledge base in advanced materials and coatings applications. Must be capable, based on your demonstrated technical knowledge, skills, and abilities, of taking a problem statement and turning it into a actionable plan based on available budget of time and dollars allocated. Leading the execution of self developed and team developed plans. This position will be expected to both execute plans though personal abilities and contracted support services.

Performs qualitative and quantitative analyses of organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties during material testing of coatings, adhesives, resins, or polymers. Designs experiments and conducts research to develop or improve analytical techniques, methodology, procedures, and investigates application of instruments in analysis. Organizes and interprets all data obtained using a wide variety of instrumental technologies. Applies technical writing and presentation skills to communicate results and findings. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with coatings and corrosion control, a strong background in its application and processes, and practical problem solving experience with U.S. Navy and commercial marine customers.



Qualified candidates will be familiar with utilizing Mil specifications and standards, as well as material qualification requirements and processes. Must possess Leadership skills to mentor/work with peers and other disciplines. #CB

**Basic Qualifications:**



Experience with developing new and novel solutions through design and execution of experiments for material solutions



Materials process development for multiple materials, from research to industrial implementation



Demonstrated ability to prepare reports through technical writing and Presentations



Project management experience at the budget and technical resource level



Understanding of the basics of corrosion processes and galvanic scale



PhD in a Chemistry or Materials area with 3 years, a Masters with 5 years, a Bachelors with 10 years of relevant experience or a NACE certification plus 15 years direct Navy experience.

**Preferred Qualifications:**



Familiar with the development and change process of Mil specifications, standards, material qualification requirements.



Familiar with utilizing specifications and standards, as well as material qualification requirements and processes.



Experience working on US Naval Platforms.



Experience with working with Laboratories and NAVSEA 05.



NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 certification is a plus



Demonstrated experience in Design of Experiments for advanced coatings or materials



Published peer reviewed technical papers to major industry organizations advancing Industry knowledge.
