Job Details

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a MH-Child & Youth Licensed Clinician III that will:


  • Perform initial diagnostic interviews, assessments, service and treatment planning, and case review in compliance with state certification standards.

  • Provide clinical services to child/adolescent MH and SA population commensurate with advanced training and experience in group, intensive substance abuse treatment, outpatient and trauma focus interventions. 

  • Perform ongoing assessment of clients, crisis intervention as needed, group, individual and family counseling and psychotherapy. 

  • Continue to assess clients for case management needs and make referrals for targeted case management as needed. 

  • Document all clinical and administrative functions via client electronic health recordand paper reporting mechanisms. 

Serve on committees and accept projects as assigned by the supervisor


Requires any combination of education (above the high school level) and/or experience equivalent to nine (9) years in fields utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and associated with such positions as clinician, counselor, therapist, social worker, psychologist or psychiatric nurse. May be required to have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver’s license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver’s license eligibility requirements.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status. Professional licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), Licensed Registered Nurse, License Mental Health Professional (LMHP), or certification as an addictions counselor or substance abuse counselor required.


Preferences: Experience working with children, adolescents and families. Experience (including any certifications) working with sexual abuse trauma, sexual offending juveniles, substance abusing juveniles. Experience working in a Trauma Informed Clinic; experience testifying in court, writing court reports and other treatment letters to collaborating professionals.

Salary Range: $57,721.20 - $88,619.54
