The work schedule is Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm as well as occasional overtime, and/or unusual hours as necessary to include evenings, weekend and holidays as circumstances dictate.
Under broad guidance, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for:
Processing payroll and maintaining all related records and reports in a confidential manner. Completing related work involving various financial and payable records in the Accounting Division.
Performing technical maintenance routines on the ERP payroll system, including data entry, uploading and downloading information and testing patches prior to their implementation.
Ensuring compliance with all payroll related Federal and State laws.
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or other related field
a) Five years in accounting, with three years computer generated payroll experience
b) Ability to present data to small groups, and be proficient in explaining data to others
2. Training Levels
Personnel are fully qualified at Grade 6 with a Bachelor’s degree and five year years of accounting
experience to include three years computer generated payroll and have a Certified Payroll Professional
(CPP) certification; for those who are not fully qualified, the following training levels have been established:
Grade 6a - ¾ of a Bachelor’s degree and four years of accounting experience to include two years of
Grade 6b - ½ of a Bachelor’s degree and three years of accounting experience to include two year of
Grade 6c - ¼ of a Bachelor’s degree and two years of payroll experience
Grade 6d – HS Diploma and five years of accounting experience to include two years of payroll
c. Job-specific Technical Competencies
a) Broad functional knowledge of payroll and accounting principles and practices, software
applications MS Office Suite b) Skills in preparing and interpreting varied financial documents and records and seeking
guidance as needed
c) Ability to assess issues and recommend solutions
a) Enterprise software system experience preferably used for payroll processing
d. Job-specific Behavioral Competencies
Establishes and meets deadlines for delivery of results
e. Special Licenses
a) Valid driver’s license from state of residence
b) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) from the American Payroll Association
