Newport News Shipbuilding a Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries is currently searching for a Production Planning and Scheduler 2, to join our Integrated Planning and Production Control (IPPC) team. This position will support New Carrier Construction/PSA Production Planning as a Production Control Deck Plate Planner.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Requesting, maintaining and completing work packages for multiple shipboard trades

• Communicate daily with General Form and / or Foreman to:

o Review weekly work schedule

o Identify work package liabilities

o Update status codes

o Sign off operation lines to ensure work

package execution


Plans, prepares, issues and controls production schedules and coordinates with material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials timed to meet production requirements. Advises management of the status of work in progress, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed. Schedules equipment and personnel, confirms material supply and demands, prepares work orders or purchase requests for the production or purchase of components or parts based on a master production schedule, shop load and inventory requirements. Coordinates interdepartmental activity with quality assurance, manufacturing, purchasing, engineering, inventory control, traffic, etc.; schedules and expedites the movement of parts by means of move orders, stock transfers and requests for shipping orders.

**Basic Qualifications:**

Apprentice School graduate, or a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of shipbuilding, related military, manufacturing, or production operations experience OR - 3 years experience at the Prod Plng and Scheduler 1 level OR - 3 years of testing/production management experience (e.g. Foreman) OR - 11 years experience in manufacturing, production operations or related military service (inclusive of 2 years supervisory/leadership experience or Planning/Production Control/Naval systems specialized training experience) and possess a well-founded knowledge of production operations, production processes, ship systems, and planning methods and schedules and/or plant maintenance activities.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

• Experience within multiple trades as a Deck Plate Planner is a plus

• Trades experience is a plus

• Knowledge of network scheduling principles and planning methods

• Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to work in a close team environment as a strong team player

• Excellent organizational and customer service skills with a strong attention to detail

• Learns quickly, adjusts to change and enjoys challenges of a new problem or situation

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

- Stand and walk for extended periods of time

- Lifting up to 25lbs

- Exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection

- Work within a close quarters manufacturing and ship construction environment

- Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, twist and walk

- Uses hands to handle, touch and manipulate items

- Have vision abilities to include proximate vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus as well as to be able to effectively see and process computer generated images on a screen or hand-held device
