Job Description Summary

The Prospect Research Analyst is responsible for providing comprehensive research on existing donors and new prospects for development/foundation staff and members of the executive leadership team. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, inquisitive, and focused. The Prospect Research Analyst is a member of the development team and reports to the Development, Campaign, and College Events Manager. This position is part-time (29 hours a week) and is for 12 months.

Function

1. Conduct comprehensive research to identify new prospects.
2. Review and select prospects for consideration for various fundraising projects, including a comprehensive major gifts campaign.
3. Identify and evaluate philanthropic capability and develop in-depth profiles and briefing materials by analyzing biographical, relationships, and complex financial information on individuals, corporations and foundations.
4. Develop and generate reports that support planning and decision-making.
5. Perform and evaluate wealth estimations and assign ratings based on publicly available information, including insider holdings, real estate, salary estimates and general demographic assessments.
6. Maintain online reference accounts and review newspapers, magazines, and other publications for sources of information on donors and prospective donors and update staff.

Required Qualifications

Prospect research experience (preferably in higher education and in a major gifts campaign environment). Experience with fundraising software and/or research software; experience using Raiser’s Edge is preferred. Familiarity with a variety of research resources, including internet and newspaper archives. Excellent writing skills, ability to write clear, compelling and succinct profiles. Experience working in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Very attentive to detail, especially in documentation and reporting. Ability to maintain highly confidential and proprietary information.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree.

Work Schedule

9:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Thursday and 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Friday; with some flexibility in work schedule.
