Release Train Engineer - Agile Coach

At Capital One, we’re building a leading information-based technology company. Still founder-led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Fairbank, we measure our efforts by the success our customers enjoy and the advocacy they exhibit. We are succeeding because they are succeeding.

Guided by our shared vision and culture, we thrive in an environment where collaboration and openness are valued. Although we are a bank, we operate as a tech company. We write our own code, develop our own software, and build our own products. We believe that innovation is powered by perspective and that teamwork and respect for each other lead to superior results. We elevate each other and obsess about doing the right thing. We are changing banking for good because we dare to dream, disrupt, and deliver a better way.

Tech College Position Overview:

We are creating something unique and unprecedented: a re-imagined hub for technology training called Tech College. This is a bold investment in developing our associates and leaders, recruiting top technical and non-technical talent, and continuing to differentiate ourselves in the market. Tech College aims to transform our approach to enabling our associates and leaders with the technical skills they need to be successful in current and future roles. We constantly strive to deliver impactful and engaging learning experiences through the most cutting-edge methods to directly enable the success of our people and our business.

As the Release Train Engineer for Tech College, you will serve as the Agile coach and leader for a set of dynamic teams responsible for analyzing, designing, and developing highly engaging learning experiences, solutions, and platforms. You will lead and support a group of Scrum Masters in managing Agile and Scaled Agile practices and ceremonies for a technology learning initiative designed to fuel our growth as a Tech company and help our associates develop cutting-edge skills.

The Release Train Engineer will be responsible for steering the Tech College subject area teams by executing proper Agile and Scaled Agile principles and frameworks (e.g., Kanban, Scrum) at the Program Level. You will also escalate and remove impediments, manage risks, and help teams drive progress towards Tech College’s goal of creating an industry-leading learning experience.

The Release Train Engineer will also prepare, execute, and guide Tech College through Agile ceremonies such as Program Increment planning and system demos.

This is a rare opportunity to be in a role with meaningful impact, challenging problems to solve, creative freedom and autonomy, strong support, and the ability to stay on the cutting edge of knowledge, skills, and tech. If you are an Agilist with a passion for improving people’s lives through technology, we would love to meet you!

Primary Responsibilities:

· Oversee the workflow and coach all Tech College Scrum Masters on Agile best practices

· Teach fundamental Agile mindsets, practices, and strategies to help Scrum Masters integrate Agile, Lean, and SAFe principles into their teams’ product development practices

· Coach Tech College team members on the fundamentals of Agile, Lean and SAFe principles

· Guide Tech College through Program Increment (PI) planning sessions to help determine and commit to an appropriate amount of work for the given PI

· Onboard and mentor new Scrum Masters to Tech College as necessary

· Work with Scrum Masters to identify product design and development impediments and help Scum Masters resolve issues using their network of Tech College peers and formal channels (including escalation if required)

· Advise Scrum Masters on using the appropriate JIRA reports (e.g., velocity, burndown, etc.) to analyze and inform decisions on team commitments, workflow, and delivery

· Introduce Agile best practices and provide Agile coaching to continuously improve the team’s delivery and operating efficiency

· Utilize Tech College feedback, reports, and metrics (e.g., quality, delivery rate) to identify areas of opportunity and status and work with leadership to continuously improve product delivery and operating principles at the program level

Basic Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

· At least 7 years of experience in IT learning product delivery

· At least 3 years of Agile experience

· Certification in one or more of the following: ICAgile, Scrum Alliance CSM/CMP, PMI’s ACP, PMP, Scrum.org, and/or SAFe

· 3+ years of experience in a technology organization
