Risk Specialist, Commercial Business Risk - Richmond,VA / Melville, NY



Job Description:

As an Associate in Capital One’s Commercial Business Risk Office, you will apply your risk management and analytical skills to help the CBRO organization continue to drive well-managed risk activities. As part of the Commercial Business Risk Office, the Risk Specialist directly supports Capital One’s Chief Business Risk Officer for Commercial Banking and the CBRO Senior Leadership Team. You will partner with peers and senior leaders, in both the second and third lines of defense, to drive CBRO’s risk activities in an open, collaborative environment. You will identify, initiate, and execute process improvements. You will help ensure that best practices are executed by the team.



The associate candidate will manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the Commercial Business Risk Office. The candidate will be a highly-motivated risk management professional with excellent organizational, planning, collaboration, project tracking, and communication skills. Risk professionals are experienced, well-trained, and respected individuals that operate within a highly collaborative team environment to deliver value-added risk services to the organization.



Responsibilities:



+ Manage control portfolios for the Line of Business (LOB) on a monthly basis and work with offshore partners to ensure all control testing is performed timely and accurately. Perform onshore testing as needed and document all testing procedures through detailed desk top procedures. Manage performance of third parties as needed through training and accuracy reviews

+ Learn the business. Develop specific curriculum and resources to leverage in learning all aspects of the line of business in which you monitor controls.

+ Build strong relationships and elevate and drive effective communications that are proactive, succinct, accurate and timely

+ Coordinating work between multiple areas and working on multiple projects simultaneously; leveraging/influencing business partners to drive results

+ Adept at analyzing trends, results and data and helps business make effective business risk decisions

+ Deliver on PRIME controls data quality and reporting – control hierarchy, ownership, sampling, frequency etc.

+ Adhere to controls monitoring standards and processes

+ Assist with the process to produce monthly business review reports for CBRO (for discussion with the Business Risk Officers (BRO’s) and LOB)

+ Track projects and initiatives to improve efficiency and effectiveness of risk activities within CBRO

+ Coordinate work between multiple areas and working on multiple projects simultaneously; leveraging / influencing business partners to drive results



Basic Qualifications:



+ High School Diploma, GED or equivalent certification, or military experience

+ At least 1 year of experience in Project or Process management

+ At least 1 year of experience in developing PowerPoint presentations or email communications

+ Proficient with MS Office Suite



Preferred Qualifications:



+ Bachelor’s Degree

+ 2 years of experience in Project or Process management

+ 1 year of experience in Risk Management

+ 1 year of experience in Change Management

+ 1 year of experience in Analysis
