Job Details

The Senior Network Engineer position oversees the university’s Voice-over-IP (VoIP) integrated communications system, leads the deployment of new telephony initiatives, and provides guidance with the campus-wide switching and routing infrastructure.

The position serves as the university’s technical point-of-contact with telephony service providers. Senior Network Engineer administers and support application servers in support of telephony and network systems.

Reporting to the Network Manager, the Senior Network Engineer will work with network engineers, network technicians, systems administrators, other IT staff and vendors to provide faculty, staff, and students operational continuity of the university VoIP and computer data network.

Requirements

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer or Information Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of Voice over IP systems and SIP.
  • Working knowledge of telephony interconnects, such as PRI and ISDN lines.
  • Working knowledge of networking technologies and protocols, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, and various routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP).
  • Working knowledge of VLANs, QOS, and other switching technologies.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical competencies with proven troubleshooting skills and expertise is performing network analysis using protocol analyzers and SNMP management tools.
  • Ability to design and implement complex network architectures, set up and maintain
    virtual servers.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles and leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead diverse individuals and manage projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a strong service orientation and ability to deliver outstanding customer service at all organizational levels.
  • Independent, self-starter with the ability to exercise sound judgment while managing multiple projects concurrently.
