Tech College Learning Experience Designer

At Capital One, we’re building a leading information-based technology company. Still founder-led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Fairbank, we measure our efforts by the success our customers enjoy and the advocacy they exhibit. We are succeeding because they are succeeding.

Guided by our shared vision and culture, we thrive in an environment where collaboration and openness are valued. Although we are a bank, we operate as a tech company. We write our own code, develop our own software, and build our own products. We believe that innovation is powered by perspective and that teamwork and respect for each other lead to superior results. We elevate each other and obsess about doing the right thing. We are changing banking for good because we dare to dream, disrupt, and deliver a better way.

Tech College Position Overview:

We are creating something unique and unprecedented: a re-imagined hub for technology training called Tech College. This is a bold investment in developing our associates and leaders, recruiting top technical and non-technical talent, and continuing to differentiate ourselves in the market.

As the Learning Experience Designer within Tech College, you’ll be part of a team responsible for translating business intent into engaging learning materials, with a focus (though not exclusively) on digital-first learning methods. By researching, designing, and developing highly engaging, learner-centric experiences and solutions, you will help fuel our growth as a Tech company and enable our associates to develop cutting-edge skills. The learning solutions you will design will target different types of learners and include modalities such as video, animation, virtual instructor-led training, simulations, and other e-learning content. If you love the idea of revolutionizing the learning experience for a group of hyper-digital, fun-seeking, customer-centric associates, read on!

The Learning Experience Designer will partner with the Learning Experience Design Lead and Learning Program Managers across subject areas to help design, develop, and deliver innovative and industry-leading technical training curricula with a keen focus on digital learning and human-centered design approaches. You will support the team’s efforts to assess learning needs, align learning strategies, and develop learning experiences that keep Capital One associates on the leading-edge of technology trends and capabilities. As the Learning Experience Designer, you will also partner with supporting teams to facilitate successful deployment throughout Tech College.

This is a rare opportunity to bring your unique mix of adult learning, design, and technical skills in a role with meaningful impact, solve challenging problems, think creatively, and continuously be on the top of your game in a supportive environment where we put the technology learner first. If this sounds like an interesting challenge and a compelling opportunity, we would love to meet you!

Responsibilities:

+ Consult with technical advisors, business partners, and subject matter experts to support learning needs assessment, design, and deliver new technical training for solutions that include online, virtual, and in-person learning experiences

+ Partner with Learning Experience Design Lead and Learning Program Managers to identify learning trends and learner needs across the organization to inform curriculum priorities

+ Define target learner personas and learning paths

+ Utilize human-centered design principles and a variety of learning delivery modalities, including digital, to develop learner-centric solutions (e.g., video, animation, virtual instructor-led training, simulations, hands-on labs, social learning, on-the-job projects)

+ Create digital learning solutions through video and digital storyboarding, design, and development

+ Incorporate certifications, badging, and targeted gamification strategies to create an engaging learning environment

+ Partner with Learning Experience Design Lead and internal stakeholders to identify and execute learning marketing and administration tactics

+ Manage workload of multiple projects assigned by Learning Experience Design Lead to meet deadlines

+ Travel as needed (up to 10% at times) to other company locations for training purposes

Basic Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

+ 3 years of UX, UI and HCI design

+ 3 years in digital learning development tools, specifically Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline

+ 3 years in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)

+ 2 years of experience in corporate training design and development

+ 1 year of experience in learning strategy or learning design/development consulting

+ 3 years in MS Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning or related field

+ At least 3 years of experience in corporate training design and development

+ At least 1 year of experience in curriculum development or learning program management

+ At least 1 year experience developing learning modalities outside of instructor-led training and eLearning

* _Applicants selected to advance in the recruiting process are expected to provide work samples and/or an online portfolio that demonstrates design capability and strong knowledge of design principles_ .
