Job Description Summary

Performs administrative support functions and duties for the College-wide Pathway of Business and the Division of Social Sciences and Public Services in order to provide extraordinary service to students and the public in achieving the college’s mission and goals as well as support the Academic Deans on the Norfolk Campus.


• Triage students, internal, and external customers to assess and meet their needs
• Prepare and send standard office correspondence and forms
• Maintain confidential filing system
• Inventory and maintain office storage and supply room
• Create and update databases and other record-keeping systems
• Assist with adjunct faculty reference checks and employment verifications
• Receive and file course syllabi; checking for compliance with TCC standards
• Assist with class scheduling input, room assignments, adjunct orientation, adjunct contracts, textbook ordering.
• Employment verifications
• Mail processing
• Maintain calendar
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Proficient in the use of a variety of computer software and programs, Word, Excel, Access, and Microsoft Outlook. Effective oral, written and technical communication skills. Possess the ability to execute effective customer service techniques with students, faculty, guests, vendors, parents, etc. and establish and maintain rapport with staff, administrators, faculty and the general public in a positive manner. Knowledge and ability to use proper business and phone etiquette.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task and to learn new procedures quickly. Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced office environment while balancing multiple, competing priorities. Ability to work as a team player.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree or certificate in business, office administration or related field; or work experience and education that provides the requisite knowledge for the position. Knowledge of student information systems. Proven experience providing administrative and clerical support in an office setting.

Work Schedule

29 hours per week. Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM . Fridays from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
