Job Details:
  • The Registered Nurse (RN) is expected to provide excellent, clinically competent patient care by utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation; and effectively interact with patients, significant others, and the other healthcare team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing. The RN also determines the effectiveness of nursing interventions by evaluating outcomes in relation to evidenced-based intervention.  The primary focus of the RN is to ensure every patient receives quality care and services through the efficient use of resources.  The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association and the Nurse Practice Act of Virginia.  As a member of the healthcare team, the RN is responsible for making decisions and performing services that are in the best interest of the patient; while positively contributing to the patient's experience and the success of the entire team by placing the patient and the team above the needs of the individual.


    §  Informs and prepares patient for procedures

    §  Assists the Cardiologist with procedures that require professional nursing skills

    §  Starts IVs, administers medications, and monitors vital signs when needed

    §  Provides in-services to technical staff, including in-services by cardiologists

    §  Assists with the orientation of nurses, physicians, and technicians where applicable

    §  May be asked to obtain training as a CPR instructor for the department

    §  Serves as a liaison between Cardiovascular Services, Radiology, and the nursing units; act as a resource person for nursing, medical, and cardiology staff

    §  Assists with quality assurance and risk management programs, and coordinate the Cardiovascular Quality Assurance program

    §  Performs necessary follow-up for concerns/incident reports

    §  Works with the Cardiovascular Clinical Supervisor to review, revise, and develop policies and procedures relevant to patient care

    §  Takes monthly calls as designated by the department

    Education and Experience

    Minimum Education: Successful completion of a Registered Nursing program

    Preferred Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing

    Experience: 5+ years as a Registered Nurse with experience in Critical Care, Cardiac Cath Lab, or Cardiac Rehab

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must obtain BLS and ACLS certifications prior to hire.
