The primary purpose of the Dining Room cashier is to create an enjoyable dining experience for residents and their guests by providing quality service at all times. The responsibilities of the cashier include providing cashier services in the Main Dining Room and assisting in the service of hot and cold food items. The cashier is also responsible for maintaining appearance and cleanliness of assigned work areas in accordance with sanitation standards. 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Developing and maintains on-going rapport with residents and their guests
  • Provides cashier services, including cash and POS transactions, on a computerized system
  • Closes out cash drawer in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Maintains cleanliness of all areas of responsibility in accordance with sanitation standards, including but not limited to, the tray line area from Confectionary area to the Buffet; counter area around the cashier station; coffee station and Market Place; and other areas as assigned
  • Assists in the service of hot and cold food items as needed
  • Organizes the counter area around the cashier station and ensures the area is free of clutter and appears welcoming to the customer
  • Follows proper alcohol service and charging procedures
  • Performs all assigned pre and post-meal tasks; assists others in post-service tasks as directed by supervisor
  • Stocks the coffee station
  • Stores, dates and labels food item properly at the close of meal service
  • Resolves minor problems relating to customer service and satisfaction; confers with supervisor on unusual or significant issues


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Use simple mathematical concepts necessary to conduct cash transactions utilizing a computerized cash register
  • Must read, write, speak and understand English sufficient to communicate satisfactorily with customers and to perform job duties
  • Must follow instructions and work independently under general direction of supervisor
  • Expected to provide excellent customer service and communicate well with others in a busy restaurant environment
  • Demonstrate a high level of sensitivity and interest in people, especially older adults
  • Capable of frequent stooping, bending; lifting, pushing, pulling and moving a minimum of 50 pound cart; maneuvering independently and safely around the work area
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds, work on your feet throughout shift, and bend, kneel, stoop, and reach
  • Must be capable of standing and walking for three to eight hour shifts
  • General knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures and practices
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule
  • Able to operate kitchen equipment (including fire extinguisher)
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or special events
