Job Description Summary

This position provides the leadership and management for the campus-based financial aid programs and services that assist students in understanding and meeting the financial obligations for their education at Tidewater Community College. The position serves to coordinate the implementation of federal, state, and college financial regulations, programs, and procedures; supervises and is accountable for the daily operations of a comprehensive financial aid office; and is responsible for oversight of training personnel regarding the financial aid application process. The Coordinator is a member of the Financial Aid Management Team, collaborating with other campuses and the Central Financial Aid Office. The position reports directly to the Dean of Student Services as a key member of the campus enrollment management team.


1. Administration of the comprehensive financial aid program at the campus in coordination/cooperation with other campus financial aid offices and Central Financial Aid.
2. Planning, organization, development, and supervision all the campus financial aid programs.
3. Supervision of the daily operations of the Financial Aid Office and staff to include recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of personnel according to college policy and procedures.
4. Interpretation and implementation of federal, state, VCCS, and college financial aid regulations and processes.
5. Development and provision of financial advising to a diverse population of students.
6. Coordination of workshops and information sessions for faculty/staff and students regarding financial aid regulations.
7. Maintenance of a system of record-keeping that supports the administration of the financial aid programs.
8. Preparation and completion of reports, audits, and program reviews as required.
9. Collaboration with other campus student services offices and Central Financial Aid Office as necessary to advance the mission of the college.
10. Serve as a member of the Financial Aid Management Team.
11. Serve as a college administrator, attending staff meetings and serving on campus and college-wide committees as assigned.
12. Participate in state, regional, and national professional development organizations.
13. Perform other tasks related to financial aid as assigned by the Dean of Student Services.

Required Qualifications

1. Demonstrated experience and expertise with local, state, and federal financial aid regulations, policies, and requirements.
2. Demonstrated ability to coordinate office functions and experience in supervising assigned staff to a) build a highly effective working team; b) make first-rate oral and written presentations including data collection, analysis and report compilation; c) organize, analyze, and innovate; and d) develop cooperative relationships with a diverse array of individuals.
3. A record of successful leadership and management in a higher education setting, preferably in a community college environment.
4. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member committed to the mission of a community college.
5. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services.
6. Experience in training and directing personnel to perform their duties in an accurate, effective, and courteous manner.
7. Knowledge of college recruitment, admissions and retention services.
8. Demonstrated skills in problem solving and resolution.
9. Demonstrated computer competency in Microsoft Office, an enterprise-based comprehensive college student information system, and various financial aid online resources.
10. Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, preferably in a discipline related to financial aid, student services, or educational leadership.

Hiring Range $62,270 - $94,279, commensurate w/ experience.
Salary Information

Actual salary will be determined based on individual qualifications and experience with consideration for internal alignment factors. The college offers an excellent benefits package.
