Job Description Summary

The Donor Research Analyst assists the Tidewater Community College Education’s major gifts campaign, which will raise money for new facilities, equipment and scholarships. The incumbent is responsible for providing comprehensive research on existing donors and new prospects for development/foundation staff and members of the executive leadership team. The position does not require fundraising experience. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, inquisitive, and focused. The Donor Research Analyst is a member of the development team and reports to the Development, Campaign, and College Events Manager. This position is part-time (29 hours a week) and is for 12 months.


1. Conduct comprehensive research to identify new prospects.
2. Review and select prospects for consideration for campaign priorities
3. Identify and evaluate philanthropic capacity and develop in-depth profiles and briefing materials by analyzing biographical, relationship, and complex financial information on individuals, corporations and foundations.
4. Develop and generate reports that support planning and decision-making.
5. Perform and evaluate wealth estimations and assign ratings based on publicly available information, including insider holdings, real estate, salary estimates and general demographic assessments.
6. Maintain online reference accounts and review newspapers, magazines, and other publications for sources of information on donors and prospective donors and update staff.

Required Qualifications

1. Skill in using a variety of research resources, including internet and newspaper archives.
2. Excellent writing skills; ability to write clear, compelling and succinct profiles.
3. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
5. Ability to pay attention to detail, especially in documentation and reporting.
6. Ability to maintain highly confidential and proprietary information.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Donor research experience with a nonprofit organization
2. Bachelor’s degree
3. Experience with fundraising software; Raiser’s Edge is preferred

Work Schedule

9:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday – Thursday and 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Friday; with some flexibility in work schedule.
