The Financial Systems Analyst I leads in the designing, testing, implementation, and evaluation of automated and manual accounting systems, including assisting in the implementation of projects.  Implements, maintains and updates financial systems. Modifies systems and reports, and troubleshoots system problems. Imports files to and exports files from financial databases. 

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Evaluate manual and automated financial accounting work processes, systems, and procedures for efficiency of workflow and conformance with generally acceptable accounting principles
  • Identify process improvements and design alternatives for new financial accounting systems and improvement to existing systems
  • Serves as department liaison with IT department and third party vendors for financial systems upgrades, enhancements, etc.
  • Serve as lead trainer for financial systems to ensure that Accounting Staff and end users are maximizing the full capabilities of systems
  • Manage special projects as assigned from initiation to completion, including outline objectives, scope, required resources, budget & deliverables.
  • Provide a project schedule to identify when tasks will be completed
  • Track and report on project milestones and provide status reports
  • Review & evaluate proposals for new departmental systems; financial accounting methods, policies and procedures - recommends improvement
  • Prepare & present comprehensive evaluations, proposals & recommendations to Executive Management for new & existing computerized accounting  systems
  • Confirm that user manuals and systems/code documentation is current and applicable
  • Evaluate internal controls and security for new and existing automated accounting applications
  • Evaluate all manual accounting processes for automation
  • Monitor the procurement, development, and implementation of systems to ensure proper integration with other financial systems
  • Generate comprehensive and collaborative forecast reports in a timely manner

Requirements

  • Evaluates new accounting software as needed and makes recommendations to management
  • Supports the mission and values of Westminster-Canterbury by providing quality customer service and support

Qualitications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, or a related field
  • Two year of professional experience as an accountant, auditor, or computer programming analyst that included participation in the design of financial accounting systems
  • CPA with valid certificate preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in Microsoft applications such as Windows, Google Email and Docs, Excel, and Word required.
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated competencies in organization and planning; must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, react quickly under stringent time frames, and meet established deadlines
  • Must be able to foster and maintain effective interdepartmental relationships
  • Must be able to organize workflow, prioritize tasks, and work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Sedentary work: must be able to perform computer work for six to eight hours per day, either standing or sitting
  • Must be able to file and retrieve documents from filing cabinets and storage area
  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally with executive management, leaders, staff, etc.
