The Hospice, Registered Nurse follows the established plan of care and completes home visits to provide palliative care visits, treatments, and teaching. He or she reports changes in status to the RN Case Manager. The ideal candidate is an RN licensed in the state of Virginia with at least one year of nursing experience (preferably in hospice, home health, or a skilled nursing facility), current CPR certification, a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and valid motor vehicle insurance. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides those services and/or treatments requiring substantial and specialized nursing skill, including intravenous fluids and medications, urinary catheterization, and complex wound care.
  • Counsels the client and family in meeting nursing and related needs.
  • Implements appropriate preventive and rehabilitative nursing procedures.
  • Prepares clinical and progress notes.
  • Prepares equipment and materials for treatment adhering to aseptic technique as required
  • Informs the RN Case Manager and physician of changes in the client’s needs.
  • Helps supervise LPN/LVNs and Hospice Home Health Aides providing services.
  • Ensures communication of information to appropriate team members

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Licensed RN in the State of VA
  • One year of nursing experience, preferably in hospice, home health, or a skilled nursing facility
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to perform CPR and relief of an obstructed airway
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and work with limited supervision
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software or similar office software
  • Must be able to climb stairs between the floors in the facility
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for a period of at least 4 hours
  • Current VA valid driver’s license required
  • Motor Vehicle Driving Record satisfactory to Westminster-Canterbury and its insurance providers
  • Proof of motor vehicle insurance
  • Desire and ability to work with the aging population in an effort to maintain the highest quality of life
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to speak and understand verbal instructions in English
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule
