**External Job Description:**

Newport News Shipbuilding offers internships which allow students to gain experience in environmental health & safety and provide the opportunity to possibly gain future full time employment.

This will be a part-time internship during the spring of 2018.

Interns will work with safety professionals which identify hazardous workplace conditions, removes hazards and/or protects employees by guarding and revising work procedures.

This position may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.

**Basic Qualifications:**

1. Be at least 18 years of age before the start of the intern program (January)

2. Be enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements in Environmental Health & Safety

3. Have attended a college or university and completed at least one year of course work by May 2017

4. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (Official transcripts will be required)

5. Attend a college/university (undergraduate program) in the fall during the internship

6. Successfully complete a criminal background investigation and a hair follicle drug screen

7. Work a 20-hour work week while taking classes starting in the spring 2018 semester
