Job Description Summary

Tidewater Community College seeks a part-time Media & Event Specialist position on the Portsmouth Campus. The Media & Event Specialist will support electronics maintenance, technical support for educational technologies the operations of campus-wide special events along and activities with a mission of service to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Hours will include day, evening, and weekend hours with occasional staff meetings and training.

Function

• Set up, operate, maintain and repair equipment such as microphones, video recorders, projectors, lighting and sound mixing equipment.
• Video/audio support: Ensure all sites are connected on time and receiving/ transmitting good audio/video.
• Gathering and interpretation of technical requirements for events. Manage the process for quoting additional equipment and resources.
• Investigate video/audio faults and recommend further actions to rectify.
• Ensure event space is safe and hazard free and all cables are secured and tidy.
• Bend, stand, push, pull, lift, carry and transport items up to 50 pounds or more for an extended period.
• Work outdoors as necessary with exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat conditions at or above 90 degrees or extreme cold conditions below 30 degrees.
• Assemble, disassemble, and transport special event equipment
• Operate special events equipment as needed
• Assist with cleaning, inspection, repair and preventative maintenance of equipment
• Maintain inventory of equipment, tools, cleaning supplies, and furniture used during events
• Display campus signage (marketing material) in a timely manner for special events
• Collaborate with college security, housekeeping, food services, private vendors present during events
• Provide internal and external customer service to a diverse population
• Ensure college policies and regulations are enforced
• Assist in all campus areas to promote retentions, visibility, and the smooth operation of campus procedures

Required Qualifications

Advance knowledge of audiovisual equipment. Able to read and understand technical manuals, and procedural documentation. Exceptional customer services skills. Ability to establish prioritizes and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow detailed instructions. Knowledge of event set up and floor plans. Knowledge of detail event logistics. Ability to assist with the planning, organizing, and scheduling of meetings and events. Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work evenings and weekends hours. Ability to work outdoors as necessary with exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat conditions at or above 90 degrees or extreme cold conditions below 30 degrees.

Work Schedule

29 hours per week to be scheduled Monday through Friday. Main hours will be scheduled between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM however evenings and weekends will be required for events.
