Job Description Summary

This part-time position provides front desk/ administrative support for the Center for Workforce Solutions.


The Center for Workforce Solutions (WFS) is responsible for providing corporate training and professional development and also administers state and federal workforce grants to meet the workforce needs of Hampton Roads.

The Office Specialist is a front desk/administrative support position that performs receptionist and clerical duties for the Workforce Solutions Center. This position is the first impression of the department for all visitors. The goal is to make guests and visitors feel comfortable and valued while on our premises and to be a problem solver for students and staff. Ability to assist with special projects, follow instructions, and meet deadlines.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of PC–based software including word processing, spreadsheet, and student management database packages with specific ability to do mail merges. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to accurately key data into student information system. Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member; Ability to problem solve, work accurately with details and organize data. Ability to organize the information desk, keep immediate area clean, maintain desk signs, daily events signs, and bulletin boards. Demonstrated skills in customer service.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with PeopleSoft Student Information System and/or Workforce Enrollment System; Experience in an office environment with a high volume of work; and experience providing customer service in a student environment or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience.

Work Schedule

11:00AM – 5:00PM with occasional evenings and weekends.
