VersAbility Resources supports people with disabilities in leading productive and fulfilling lives.

We envision a world where people with disabilities enjoy dignified,
productive lives of their choosing as fully accepted members of society.

What we do

Since our founding in 1953, we have grown tremendously and now serve over 1,150 people with disabilities and their families each year in employment, community living in Hampton Roads, Envisions Day Support in Hampton Roads, and early childhood programs. Services range from coordinating developmental therapies for children to building successful business partnerships that provide staffing solutions for employers and provide jobs in Hampton Roads and beyond for people with disabilities. Adults with disabilities participating in VersAbility Resources employment programs earned over $5.5 million in wages and benefits in 2012. We provide federal contract staffing through our 13 government contracts, through which people with disabilities work alongside enlisted and civilian personnel at military bases as far away as Hawaii.

VersAbility Resources is a 501c3, tax-exempt organization. Your donations help people with disabilities live, work and thrive in our community. We are also a major service provider, as well as a major business and employer in the community, serving individuals with disabilities from Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, York County and the 10 counties on the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. VersAbility Resources hosts two annual signature events – The Ability Am Golf Tournament in June and Winter Gala and Snowflake Ball in December.

  • We are United Way partner agency, with a designation number of 7026.

  • We partner with local Kiwanis Clubs to support the Aktion Club of the Peninsula, a service organization led by individuals with disabilities.

New name – same vision

To chart our future in the decades ahead, we determined we needed a new organizational name, as The Arc of the Virginia Peninsula no longer represents our services, some of which are nationwide in scope. On October 1, 2013 we adopted a new name – VersAbility Resources. This name is a fusion of Versatile and Abilities, a true representation of the individuals with disabilities we have proudly served for 60 years. This new name reflects our growing service area and commitment to creating new opportunities that highlight the abilities of people with disabilities.

It is important that we repackage our brand in a way that appeals to both public/private businesses as well as those benefiting from our human service programs. Employment and labor contracts are part of our long-term market expansion and make up a key piece of what can facilitate growth across the entire organization. In turn, this initiative enables us to serve more people with disabilities. Our hope is that this brand rejuvenation brings a revived sense of our organizational pride. We’ve been doing phenomenal things!
